The Elizondo Library and Archives
The purpose of the Elizondo Library and Archives is to provide biliterate, educational resources and support services that further advance MACC’s mission of educating leaders for service in a culturally diverse Church and society.
The Mexican American Catholic College has a unique on-campus library and archival collection named in honor of Rev. Virgilio Elizondo, MACC’s founding president and a pioneer in Hispanic Ministry and theology. The library is located at the College’s entrance and houses a very focused collection of works, periodicals, audio-visual resources, and reference material in both Spanish and English. The Archives also contains original manuscripts, primary documents, records, and other valuable historical and contemporary material for scholarly study. Students can use the computer resources located in the library to access the internet and electronic data bases. Students receive a thorough orientation on how to use the library’s technological resources during their first semester. Professors incorporate research into each course MACC offers.
Students can readily access all the texts required for each course they take. They can also use the library for more in-depth research in the areas of theology, philosophy, cultural studies, Guadalupe studies, and pastoral ministry.
The library is staffed by two fulltime librarians who also provide guidance to students in their research projects. Borrowing privileges are extended only to persons with a valid MACC identification card and in good standing with the library. The library is also open to student researchers of other colleges and universities, and to the general public for occasional use of its resources.
The library is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Friday. The Library’s extended hours for evenings and weekends are posted at the beginning of each semester. Students must make an appointment with the librarian to consult Archival materials.
