MACC invites you to a semester immersion in Hispanic Ministry in the Third Millennium by becoming a participant in MACC’s New HPM Program.

The goals of the HPM include:

  • To promote multicultural understanding by introducing participants to the culture and ethos unique to the Hispanic people in the U.S. and challenging them to discover and appreciate their own heritage.
  • To prepare and enrich participants for pastoral leadership in Mexican American and other Hispanic communities through a comprehensive, academic and experiential program.
  • To facilitate a renewing sabbatical experience for those interested in fostering Latino leadership.
  • To promote understanding of the unity between faith and  culture particularly among Hispanics.
  • To examine the pastoral dimensions for Hispanic Ministry: 1) New Evangelization and Formation, 2) New Evangelization and Missionary Option, 3) New Evangelization and Pastoral de Conjunto and 4) New Evangelization and Liturgy and Prayer life.
  • To provide opportunities for research and supervised pastoral experiences which enhance analysis and ministerial skills in Hispanic contexts (during a second semester of the HPM)

By studying the cultural and spiritual realities of Mexican Americans, the participants learn fundamental principles, methods and skills for pastoral ministry that are respectful of cultural differences and relevant to various Hispanic groups.

The HPM begins with MACC’s 3-week Hispanic Ministry in the 21st Century Program, which is the foundational course for all other topics, courses and workshops in The Leadership for Hispanic Ministry in the Third Millennium curriculum.

Participants who have already participated in the Hispanic Ministry in the 21st Century Program within the past five years will begin three weeks later than the dates listed below.

Topics of the interactive workshops included in The HPM vary depending on the workshops being offered during that semester.

Some of the workshops offered include:

The HPM draws upon the talents of instructors who share their insights and experiences as leaders, historians, social scientists, theologians, writers and pastoral agents.

The majority of the faculty is Hispanic and presents subjects from that perspective.

The HPM is ideal for individuals on sabbatical, whether in transition and seeking a new ministry or currently involved in Hispanic ministry and seeking renewal and updating; for seminarians, religious, clergy and laity beginning their ministry; and for persons returning from foreign ministry assignments who wish to enter into Hispanic Ministry in the United States.

Individuals who want to obtain credit for participation in The HPM are encouraged to inquire about academic credit at their home institution. MACC cooperates with colleges, universities, houses of formation and seminaries in order to facilitate awarding of credit for courses and workshops taken at MACC.
