Hispanic Ministry in the Third Millennium:

Fostering Latino Leadership for Church and Society

“Today, Hispanic ministry faces two central questions. First, what model of leadership will Hispanic Catholics offer as they continue to become a strong presence within the Catholic Church in the United States? And second, how will this model strengthen the unity of the body of Christ in increasingly culturally diverse communities?” ( Encuentro and Mission , 7)

MACC's comprehensive formation program for leadership in Hispanic Ministry responds to the four dimensions of the renewed pastoral framework outlined by the U.S. Catholic Bishops and the call of Pope John Paul II to a “new evangelization.” At the heart of this call is an effort to build an inclusive and prophetic model of the Church that invites all to conversion, communion, and solidarity through an encounter with the Risen Christ in our midst.

Dimension I: The New Evangelization and Formation

Focus: Integral Leadership Formation – Being a servant leader in Hispanic ministry means committing to ongoing formation in every sense of the word: personal, academic, professional, and spiritual. MACC offers a variety of exceptional formation and language programs for new and seasoned leaders in Hispanic ministry. Additionally, MACC offers leaders the tools they need to introduce or strengthen wholistic, formation programs that foster Latino leadership for the whole multicultural Church and Society.

Dimension II: The New Evangelization and Missionary Option

Focus: Outreach, Service, and Empowerment – Being a leader in Hispanic Ministry means mobilizing faith communities to respond to the urgent spiritual and social needs of our times. MACC's programs and resources for leadership formation are rooted in the call of Catholic Social Teaching to be “a leaven for the Reign of God in society.” MACC offers courses and immersion experiences that help leaders to see social realities, to discern them in the light of faith, and to initiate social action grounded in Gospel values.

Dimension III: The New Evangelization and Pastoral de Conjunto

Focus: A Common Vision and Mission – Being a leader in Hispanic Ministry means being a member of a community of servant leaders. Knowing and humbly sharing one's gifts and limitations is at the core of building unity in vision and mission. MACC's programs build skills for collaboration by fostering a deep respect for cultural, religious, and personal diversity. Additionally, MACC offers leaders resources for understanding the structures within the Church and in Society to evaluate their inclusiveness.

Dimension IV: The New Evangelization and Liturgy and Prayer Life

Focus: Spirituality and mística – Being a leader in Hispanic Ministry means being rooted in prayer and participating as an active member of a worshiping community. MACC's programs are immersed in an environment that allow participants to integrate their faith and their life experiences. MACC also provides numerous liturgical resources in English and Spanish, along with workshops and consultative services, to help leaders foster spiritual growth in Hispanic communities through Liturgy and Popular Religiosity.
